Airbnb Legal Issues in Amsterdam
Back in 2014, Amsterdam proved itself as a city which was committed to keeping up with the times, when they created an “Airbnb-friendly law’”. In fact, they’re still celebrated as the first city in the world to do so. Within the law, they added a distinct category of housing – Particuliere Vakantieverhuur – which is a private vacation rental designed to make it easy for tourists to book short term accommodation.
Although, there are some conditions which were implemented into the law:
- Only the owner can rent out a property, and tenants are not permitted to rent out a property which isn’t theirs
- The limit of people renting a property at any given time is four
- The property can only be rented out for two months of the year maximum
- Only the registered, main occupant is able to rent out a property
